Mix Room

First commissioned in 2018, our Northward Acoustics mix room was comprehensively reconfigured in 2023. The new custom hybrid mix solution has been carefully-engineered to meet the needs and demands of 21st century mix and production workflows.

Signal flow to ample racks of carefully-selected analog outboard gear is managed by digital patchbays from Flock Audio. The Flocks allow us to configure hardware inserts with comprehensive flexibility while keeping audio paths short and pure.

An ergonomic, custom mastering-style desk houses a sixteen-channel summing mixer and a dedicated array of vintage and modern stereo EQs and dynamics. The flanks of the desk feature processors typically used on eight stereo submixes, while the center houses a curated collection of stepped, recallable mastering-style gear. A flexible switcher allows the master bus processors to be auditioned, re-ordered, bypassed, and substituted from a mix-position button press. An additional Flock array handles routing for submix processing.

48 I/O of RADAR UltraNyquist converters were chosen after an extensive audition process. They’re the closest in sound to a straight wire analog connection we’ve ever found.

ATC SCM 110ASL Pro mains are flush-mounted in the front walls, and a small selection of popular nearfields are also available. Visiting engineers’ nearfields-of-choice can connect to our API monitor controller in seconds

Equally flexible for our in-house mix engineers and visiting mixers this systems brings together the best of digital and analog workflows.
